“I’m A Writer. I write things down … ideas, things to ponder and question, thoughts.  We all think, but writers have the guts, or stupidity, to permanently put it out for whoever wants to see. I write because I have something to say and I want to say it.  Not that it has any great value or lack of value.  I don’t make that kind of judgement on my ramblings. It would cloud the expression and impair my truth.  It’s just what is … just because.”

Kathryn Leary Valencia is a connoisseur of words, context and meaning.  Her unique, and a bit off kilter, take on quotes, lyrics and everyday expressions offer a different and somewhat surprising perspective.  What is accepted as normal is looked at from another angle engaging thought and curiosity.  With her book as well as with this blog, both named Soul Speak, she highlights a practice of incorporating self-reflection and awareness.  Life experiences are the credentials she draws from, covering the mundane to breathtaking and in doing so, reveals the central theme of where, and to what, value is placed.

Ms. Valencia spends her time between Pensacola, Florida and Birmingham, Alabama with her husband.  She has 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren.  She received a B.A. from Auburn University, has travelled extensively and is an avid runner.
