Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

It’s Hot!!!

One of the first things, first change to my mindset, I had to incorporate when I started running was getting comfortable with being uncomfortable … extreme heat, bitter cold, uphills/downhills and the unexpected rain shower versus a lovely light breeze. It gave me a very clear visual, understanding of the value of all experiences. Up until that point I had lived with a goal to be as comfortable as possible. That goal in and of itself is not bad; however, disregarding everything else robs you. Interesting language used to define a good life. Anything less than ease is not worthy of appreciation. The part that’s left out is there is no easy without effort. How would you even know what it is? There are two sides to every coin. Consider the trade-off. Running did that for me. There was so much I was missing, so much I never knew even existed. It’s not that the other side of the coin is necessarily better. It’s the awareness that there’s more than what you’re being fed. The Language is important; pay attention to it. Especially the language in your own head, protect it. All of our experiences have value. Comfortable/Uncomfortable, Easy/Hard, Winning/Losing … They define each other. How would you know what grief is without love. How would you know the depth of your love without grief. That’s the melody, the dance of a wonderful life.

It’s your birthright 🙂
