Sit Up Straight. Shoulders Back. Stand Tall.
Mom was right! It does make a difference, not just in how it looks but in how it feels. The right posture is critical for distance running. I could run forever if my back/core were strong enough. It’s not the legs that give out first. People assume with running you need strong legs. I don’t disagree. But the stamina is in the core. And you can practice core strength all day long. An extreme workout may be a good start. Schedule according to your training needs. But it doesn’t end there. From the time you get out of bed … tune in, straighten up, shoulders back … it gets the oxygen flowing. You have to remind yourself at first, when you catch it, notice you’re slumping; it’s a practice like everything else. Interesting enough, it’s not just The Run that benefits; it’s an overall good feeling booster for your body, for your mind. We want to do something intense; big moves are easier to acknowledge, to put on the list of plusses for the day. One or two big moves and we’re good, going through the rest of the day with as little awareness as possible. It’s seen as a luxury to not participate in our own lives.
I don’t get it.
High intensity moments should not be the sole recipient of our attention. A continuous flow of energy starting with awareness … directing thought, making choices, is how to be at peace with your consequences. Little adjustments make a big difference in how you experience life. So sit up straight, shoulders back, and stand tall.
Live Life to the Fullest 🙂
