Beer & Coq Au Vin, Telluride, CO

Huh? Doesn’t seem to go together and it doesn’t. So here is the explanation. I don’t drink beer, don’t like beer, but apparently it is the perfect apres ski reward for a successful day on the slopes. My body literally says to me “I want a beer”. Weird right? I’ve reviewed Last Dollar Saloon in a past post and still is a favorite in the town of Telluride but Mountain Village has it’s own star. Thanks to extreme exhaustion, not wanting to take the gondola down, we walked straight from the slopes to Telluride Brewery and were enamored by the vibe and, more importantly, the beer. They have a great Kolsch and Pilsner for me. Sweetheart opted for Sleeper Pow Day aged in a bourbon barrel which really does pack a Pow in alcohol content. The menu is simple, sustains life, but the beer is the primary sustenance here.

Now to the Coq Au Vin … Petite Maison is a quaint little establishment in the town of Telluride. The ambience is a perfect release from the day. A small, intimate setting gives the feeling of dining with family and friends but with professional service. The staff gives exceptional attention to your time there, not rushing from table to table, allowing you to sink into the experience and really take in all aspects of the meal, the service, the atmosphere … not a single detail overlooked. When in Colorado, I don’t do seafood, although I have to say Sweetheart’s Fish Stew was amazing, more like a perfectly prepared filet of Sea Bass over shrimp, muscles and clams. I opted for the Coq Au Vin and it was perfection. Served over potato puree (mashed potatoes), mushrooms with a sprinkling of green beans … all the vegetables that we’ve had here are local and organic and could be considered the best part of the meal.

To my delight … Telluride continues to be a Foodie Heaven … Stay Tuned 🙂
