Regarded as a Source of Strength; Nourishment

He asked the group who had gathered to say their final good-byes to stand and share their stories and memories of her. It felt intrusive of me to speak, being mostly family attending. I simply made guest appearances in her life; she made an impact on mine.

So if I were to speak, what one word would I choose to sum up my experience of her? Soup … … Huh? Soup, that’s the word that came to mind. Always there, making soup and cornbread or some sort of sustenance for the whole crew who would regularly pop in at her daughter’s (my friend’s) home. She fed my family more times than I can count, not something I’m necessarily proud of but … She Was There … a constant presence … doing, supporting, sustaining daily life moments. Those of us who witnessed her devotion to purpose got an example that stays with me to this day.

We all have teachers throughout life, not necessarily in a classroom setting. The people around us at any given time, even in fleeting encounters, play a role in learning and growth, so pay attention to the lessons.

The Assignment? … Be Present 🙂
